The Open University
The Open University (OU) is the distance learning educational institution, which has an open policy for the students’ enrollment. That means that no attention paid to the previous achievements in academics; everyone is free to become a member of the undergraduate program. The university was founded in 1969; however, the first students started their education only in 1971.
These courses are available to all the people around the world, however, nowadays, the majority of the students are those of the UK. The administration of the Open University is located in the Walton Hall, in Buckinghamshire; nevertheless, it has its centers in all the regions of the UK. The officers of the Open University are also serving in some other European countries. This university offers undergraduate and post-graduate diplomas and certificates.
The Open University numbers 180,000 students within the UK and 25,000 of overseas students; in terms of its enrollment it is considered to be the largest world university, mega university as it is sometimes called. Since the year of its foundation, more than 3 million of students have already received their diplomas and certifications with the help of the Open University.
The, main aim of the Open University is to provide the students, who are not able to be enrolled full-time, with the higher education.
