Leeds Metropolitan University
Leeds Metropolitan University is the university, which has the campuses not only in Leeds, but also in Harrogate, England. It was established as a charter university in 1992. Until the 1992, this educational institution served under the name of Leeds Polytechnic.
Leeds Metropolitan University started to exist due to the merge of the four colleges; those are Leeds College of Technology, Leeds College of Commerce, Leeds College of Art (part of it), Yorkshire College of Education and Home Economics.
In 2006, the educational institution became a winner of the award given for the out-standing contribution to the local community. Leeds Metropolitan University occupied the first place within the Green League 2007.
The number of the connection with other sporting and cultural institutions is just great. It has sport connections with Leeds Rugby, Yorkshire Country Cricket Club, Rugby Football League, Challenge Cup. Leeds Metropolitan University has connections with West Yorkshire Play House, Royal Armouries, Opera North, Black Dyke Band.
This University is also famous for its alumni; those are Mohammad Sidique khan, Shehzad Tanweer, Richard Buck, David Ball.
If speaking about the enrollment to the university, one can mention that it is rather big, or example, in 2006, Leeds Metropolitan University numbered 52,000 of admitted applicants.
